Winning a contest leads to collaboration

Courtney Simms a 2005 Alumni of the University of the Fraser Valley won their annual Alumni art contest in March 2010. The contest prize was the opportunity to have the selected art on the commemorative graduation class of 2010 wine labels. Courtney submitted 2 pieces of her artwork "Zion in Early Morning" and "Zion at Dusk" and they were selected to adorn the wine labels. Bringing Abstract Art Painting Into Your Space


Courtney Simms is primarily a self-taught artist and has been drawing since she could hold a crayon. Courtney started painting in acrylics in 2005, and has recently introduced 'painting in oils' into her artist repertoire; She likes both mediums but is really loving using oils. The styles Courtney uses to convey her artistic message in painting are contemporary and abstract art painting. In her abstract art paintings Courtney likes to experiment with color and texture.

"My interest also resides in exploring shape, movement, shadows and reflective light in landscapes and water. In my contemporary artwork I derive my inspiration for my landscape paintings from my travels to Mexico and throughout the USA."
